shin Mako Voelkel began practicing at San Francisco Zen Center in 1997. In 2002, she ended a teaching position in philosophy to enter 10 years of monastic practice at Tassajara. Ordained by Ryushin Paul Haller in 2004, and Shuso in 2009, Mako landed at the Austin Zen Center in 2013 and has served as the Head Teacher for the past five years.
