Dharma Discussion Group

This program is currently only available online.

This peer led book group meets weekly online to promote engaged practice and Dharma discussion. Our main interest is in collaborative engagement and discussion of our individual and shared practice in an informal, friendly and contemplative atmosphere.

The group is currently reading Lovingkindness: The Revolutionary Art of Happiness by Sharon Salzberg.

We previously read Seeds For A Boundless Life by AZC founding teacher, Zenkei Blanche Hartman. In that book, Zenkei Hartman emphasized the importance of practicing lovingkindness and the other brahmaviharas. She wrote:

“ As soon as we notice a stressful thought - such as greed, grasping, craving, envy, aversion, ill will, fear, hatred, or delusion- we can train ourselves to recognize it as unwholesome and let it go."  " As soon as we notice a wholesome thought - such as connection, love, kindness, compassion, empathetic joy, equanimity, gratefulness, generosity, enthusiasm, or devotion-we can train ourselves to recognize it as wholesome and cultivate it.” ,pp.132-133

We meet virtually on Zoom Monday evenings at 7pm. We begin with 10 minutes of conversation and check in and then five minutes of sitting. Then we read the Lovingkindness Sutra that is chanted at AZC. Next, we take turns reading parts of the book. The ebook is shared on Zoom by the facilitator, Rich Graf. You don’t have to read it in advance or buy a copy. You don’t have to read aloud if you don’t want. You can just listen.
We read and discuss until 8:15pm. All are welcome. Please, come join us online Mondays at 7pm.
