Weekend Retreat on Training in Compassion

The ability to sit in silence with one another over a multiple day retreat is a rare opportunity for deepening our practice with one other as well as within ourselves.

During this Weekend Retreat we will be focusing on the Lojong practices of Training the Mind & Developing Compassion. It will include establishing our connection to both absolute & relative bodhicitta through the forms & formlessness of Zazen, through cultivating compassion within “sending and receiving” (tonglen), and by exploring the post-meditation practice of bringing ourselves from stillness into the activity of daily life.

This upcoming Weekend Retreat contains multiple components of traditional Zen training in mind-body awareness:

  • Bountiful periods of zazen (seated meditation)
  • Walking meditation (kinhin- 10-15 minute periods of very slow and attentive walking between periods of sitting meditation)
  • Guided meditation in Sending & Receiving (Tonglen)
  • Chanting services
  • Formal oryoki meals in the zendo
  • Dharma talks
  • Embodied work practice
  • Opportunity to meet one-on-one with a teacher to discuss your practice
