Just come to enjoy the quiet time, and to deepen your meditation through an extended period of sitting.
“You should therefore cease from practice based on intellectual understanding, pursuing words and following after speech, and learn the backward step that turns your light inward to illuminate your self. Body and mind will drop away of themselves, and your original face will be manifest. If you wish to attain suchness, you should practice suchness without delay.”
-Eihei Dogen
This offering is by donation only. While we suggest a donation of $25/members, $35/nonmembers, you are warmly invited to participate at no cost.
This sitting will be a Double Zazenkai, with one segment in the morning (8a – 12p) and another in the afternoon (1p – 5p). You are welcome to join any part of the day; you don’t have to commit to the entire four (or eight) hour block.
The sitting meditation periods are 25 minutes each, alternating with 10 minutes of Kinhin (walking meditation). Please arrive and leave during periods of Kinhin if you don’t plan to stay the whole time.
There will be no instruction offered or dharma talk given this day. However, at noon, we will hold a service for AZC’s original Guiding Teacher Seirin Barbara Kohn, who recently passed away. There will still be time to get lunch after the short service if you are planning on staying through the afternoon session.
The intention of this offering is to provide the opportunity to sit longer for those who wish to, for any length of time during the morning or the afternoon sessions, or both. Just come to enjoy the quiet time, and to deepen your meditation through an extended period of sitting.
