- Tuesday Dec. 1 (6am) – Saturday Dec. 5 (2:45pm)
Rohatsu Sesshin at AZC this winter will be a modified 5-day retreat in commemoration of the Buddha’s Enlightenment, and in association with Belfast’s Black Mountain Zen Centre & Senior Dharma Teacher Ryushin Paul Haller (who led AZC’s Rohatsu in 2018). It is an opportunity to come together to support one other in deepening our practice, to diligently care for and collect body and mind, and to discover anew, clarify, and actualize our ultimate concern.
Our time together will include these components of traditional Zen training:
- Zazen (seated meditation)
- Kinhin (walking meditation)
- Bowing and chanting practice
- Dharma talks about our practice
- Opportunities to meet one-on-one with our teachers to discuss your practice.
Participants are encouraged to join the retreat schedule created around both AZC’s regular offerings and the offerings given by Ryushin Paul Haller in association with Black Mountain Zen Centre in Belfast, Ireland. Access the full Rohatsu Sesshin Schedule and Online Portal HERE.
Our Buddha’s Enlightenment Ceremony (open to the public) has been rescheduled for Saturday, December 12th at 1:00pm.
If your intention is to sit most, if not all, of the full Rohatsu sesshin schedule with us, please complete a retreat APPLICATION (if this is your first multi-day sit) & let us know your intention to participate no later than Monday, November 30th.
Due to the recent increase to level 4 in Covid19 mitigation efforts here in Travis county, this Sesshin will be held entirely online.
Program Fees: By donation to Black Mountain Zen Centre, and to Austin Zen Center.
As always, AZC is committed to making the teachings available to everyone. To request financial assistance from our Scholarship Fund, or if you would like to donate to the Fund for others to be able to participate, please call Julie Strahan at 512-452-5777.
