Heart of the Brush – A Workshop with Kazuaki Tanahashi

Become introduced to Shodō, or the Way of the Brush, with master calligrapher and teacher Kazuaki Tanahashi.

In this workshop you will learn the basic skills of brushwork as you practice copying ideograms from ancient Chinese masterpieces. You will also interpret these works and improvise joy while exploring how presence with the movement of the brush works in our heart, our mind, and our environs.

No previous experience in meditation or brush work is necessary to join this workshop.

Program Fees*: $120 members/$150 nonmembers

Kazuaki Tanahashi is a calligrapher, painter, Zen scholar, prolific writer, and peace and environmental activist. His early training was in Japan. His seminal Heart of the Brush: The Splendor of East Asian Calligraphy, a guide to the study of calligraphy, was published in 2016. Find more about Kaz on his website, Brush Mind.
