The easiest way to familiarize yourself with the Austin Zen Center and our core practice is to start by attending the Beginners’ Class held on Saturdays from 8:00–9:00am. This event is held in the zendo (meditation hall) in the main building at 3014 Washington Square. Register on the website.

Participants will be given meditation instruction (the core practice of Zen Buddhism), a general orientation to the Center, and an opportunity to ask questions about Zen practice at the Austin Zen Center.

All are invited to join the Saturday Morning Program* immediately after the Beginner’s class. While there is no charge for this group, donations are always welcome. As the center is occasionally closed for retreat, check the calendar before coming in.

Austin Dharma Punks (ADP) is a peer led group that was originally based on but evolved out of the teachings of Against The Stream, The Heart of The Revolution and Kind Awareness.

Austin Dharma Punks wishes to create and sustain communities of healthy, accountable, wise and compassionate people from every walk of life. We welcome people from all racial, economic, sexual, social, political and religious backgrounds and believe that the path of awakening is attainable by all and should be available to all. We strive to create a safe environment for all who come to practice.

Don’t let the word “punk” deter you. It does not matter how you dress, if you have tattoos or what kind of music you listen to. All beings are welcome.

Our typical sit involves a ten minute reading, 20 minutes of guided meditation, open discussion and ends with a ten minute silent meditation.

No donation is requested, but please support the Austin Zen Center.
