Reflections on the Kitchen after a One Day Sitting

On Saturday, March 8th, AZC hosted the first One Day Sitting of 2025.  While the sitting was a positive experience for those in attendance, we were reminded of the great need for this renovation!  Our kitchen presented several challenges during the preparation and serving of food and the cleanup afterwards.

One of the main obstacles to cooking for 20+ people is a lack of adequate appliances.  For example, the burners on our current stove heat unevenly, which makes cooking in large pots and pans problematic.  We also lack a ventilation system which means smells linger and can be oppressive to those working and sitting in the next room.

However, the biggest challenge is not having enough space to chop, stir, and sauté.  The island in the middle of the kitchen provides much needed work surface but is also right in the middle of the already small kitchen.  Our re-imagined kitchen will put a premium on space and the ability to move around freely to more efficiently and effectively prepare and serve meals.

Since the announcement of this project a little over a week ago, we have already started to receive generous contributions from both members and non-members alike.  Many thanks to those who have participated so far in this important project!  Stay tuned for additional updates including progress toward our goal of raising $80,000.
