Dharma Talk on Renunciation

with Rev. Colin Gipson, Shikan Zenka

(Determined to See, Completely Burnt Up)

Join us for a Dharma Talk on Renunciation by Rev. Colin Gipson, Head Teacher of the San Antonio Zen Center.

Renunciation is often associated with monastic life, but in Zen practice, fundamentally, renunciation is the reality of coming back to the present moment. Far from being separate from the world, it brings us in close and helps free us from suffering and the causes of suffering.

About Rev. Colin Gipson: Colin was born in Austin and raised in central Texas, served in the Marine Corps and eventually resided in Michigan, where he received a degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Michigan. Colin returned to Texas in 1999 and began practicing at the Austin Zen Center in 2000. He was ordained in 2003 and practiced at San Francisco Zen Center for several years. He returned to the Austin Zen Center and was Shuso (Head Monk) in 2010. Colin received Dharma Transmission in October, 2014 and is currently the Head Teacher at the San Antonio Zen Center.
