A Zen ancestor once said, “The entire world of the ten directions is the radiant light of the self. The entire world of the ten directions is within the radiant light of the self. In the entire world of the ten directions, there is not a single person that is not the self.”
Come explore the wondrous meaning and implications of these profound meditation instructions with visiting teacher Rev. Kokyo Henkel as we embark on our Spring Practice Period together.
Genzo-e is a concentrated study retreat on a chapter of Dogen Zenji’s Shobogenzo. In this retreat we will investigate “Radiant Light” (Komyo), one of Dogen’s most beautiful and direct expressions of nonduality. Each day includes morning and afternoon classes with Kokyo.
- Full Retreat: $200/$250 for members/non-members
- Classes-Only: $120/$150 members/nonmembers
Kokyo Henkel trained for 19 years in residence at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center (most recently as Tanto, or Head of Practice), Green Gulch Farm Zen Center, No Abode Hermitage in Mill Valley, and Bukkokuji Monastery in Japan. He was ordained as a priest in 1994 by Tenshin Reb Anderson, receiving Dharma Transmission from him in 2010. He is currently the Head Teacher of the Santa Cruz Zen Center, where he has been since 2009. Kokyo is interested in exploring how the original teachings of Buddha-Dharma from ancient India, China, and Japan are still very much alive and useful in present-day America to bring peace and harmony to this troubled world.
As always, AZC is committed to making the teachings available to everyone. To request financial assistance from our Scholarship Fund, or if you would like to donate to the Fund for others to be able to participate, please call Susan Hansen at 512-452-5777
