AZC is Looking to Hire a Temple Administrator

About the Position

Austin Zen Center is looking for a highly organized, collaborative and tech savvy professional with administrative experience to support the day to day operations of the temple. The ideal candidate is a proactive and clear communicator who is technologically adept and a warm and welcoming presence. The administrator will report to the Director and work alongside senior leadership to support and maintain the center, community and its members.

What you’ll do:

  • Correspond with the general public and members in person, by phone, email and text
  • Maintain a well-organized office including records management
  • Perform member relationships and data management tasks
  • Event planning, tracking, support and management
  • Public communications curation, creation, publishing and management including web site, flyers, newsletter and socials.
  • Mobile banking and bookkeeping
  • Purchase supplies in person and online
  • Vendor management
  • Volunteer coordination
  • Provide support to leadership, teachers, visitors, volunteers and staff as requested
  • Issues management including tracking and documentation
  • Coordinate facilities repair and maintenance
  • Run errands
  • Be helpful and dependable and perform additional duties as requested

Requirements:
1-2 years experience in an administrative, administrative assistant or events management role and strong computer literacy and some experience with the following:

  • Using Google Suite including Google Docs, Google Sheets, Gmail, Calendar and MS Office including Excel
  • Using WordPress
  • Events management and multi-channel promotions including social media
  • Working in a non profit organization 
  • Using a CRM such as Salesforce
  • Editing images and creating print collateral using tools in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Online and mobile banking
  • Bookkeeping in Quickbooks
  • Setting up and managing forms like Gravity Forms
  • Using newsletter creation software like MadMimi, MailChimp, etc.

Curiosity
There’s no requirement to have a meditation practice to fill this position. A basic understanding or willingness to learn about Soto Zen Buddhism, principles of practice and terminology is very helpful.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position operates in an office and Buddhist temple environment. Both are located in two semi-accessible older homes across the street from one another. This role routinely requires movement between buildings, moving mail and packages weighing no more than 25 lbs, sitting or standing while working at a computer for extended periods and driving a vehicle. We use standard office equipment such as computers, mobile phones, printers and filing cabinets.

Other Requirements
This position requires a current, valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.

Job Specifications

  • $28/per hour
  • Part time, 15-25 max hours per week 
  • Hours are approximately 8-9am until 1 or 2 pm Tuesday through Friday
  • Hours will be on site to start with a hybrid option following training 
  • Location is 3014 Washington Sq Austin, TX 78705 and adjacent offices
