Hi e-sangha,
If you haven't looked at the AZC calendar recently you may have
missed the announcement about the afternoon sitting once a month.
It is happening today. I am reposting the announcement below.
Thank you,
Rinshin
BEGINNER'S MIND SITTINGS
Beginner's Mind Sittings
Led by Rinshin Stopher
First Saturdays, 1-4pm
(see calendar for schedule)
Come and practice zazen from 1 - 4pm on Saturdays after the morning
program. The schedule will be short periods of zazen and regular
periods of kinhin. That means 25 to 35 minutes of sitting followed by
10 minutes of walking for three hours
These sittings are ideal for newcomers to practice who want to try
something a little more intense, and a good opportunity for old
timers to do some sitting in off hours.
These sitings are scheduled for the first Saturday of the month where
no major zendo activity is scheduled. In 2008 these afternoon
sittings will occur on:
May 10th
June 7th
July 12th
August 9th
September 6th
October 4th
November 1st
See the calendar.
The afternoon will end with a reading of the Hsin Hsin Ming, a poem
by Seng T'san (Japanese: Sosan), the Third Ancestor of Zen in China.
This poem begins with the words:
"The Great Way isnt difficult for those
who are unattached to their preferences."
Come and find out for yourself if the Great Way is easy or difficult,
through this communal tradition of sitting practice. Just show up, it
is not necessary to register and there is no cost.
