At our members' meeting on Saturday (Thank you to all who came.) a
few questions about our evening schedule arose.
We'd like to hear from you. Would it be worth it to you for us to
change our schedule in the following ways?:
Classes are usually held at 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.. In other words,
immediately after evening zazen. Many times we start late.
Would it help if we started classes at 7:00 p.m. - giving time for
people to have a bite to eat, chat, get here during rush hour ?
If we start at 7:00 p.m. for classes and Wed. night events, would you
like to have two periods of zazen as below?
5:30 - 6:10 zazen p.m.
6:10 - 6:20 kinhin p.m.
6:20 - 6:50 zazen p.m.
Those who are not able to get here so early could arrive at 6:10 or
6:20 for a shorter period of zazen.
We have 8 weeks of classes and 4 or 5 weeks of practice period 3
times a year, and between those a period
without classes or the extra activities of practice period.
During the class times we would have the schedule above and no
chanting service.
During the practice period we could offer a service at 6:50 and be
finished by 7:00
During the less active times we could also offer service at 6:50.
Wed. events would begin at 7:00 instead of 6:30.
Those who come for the first period could leave early should they wish.
The other change we'd like to consider is: Friday evenings. Because
we often cancel Fri. evening zazen because of sesshins etc.
and because our attendance on Friday evenings is very low, we'd like
to cancel Friday evening zazen. You are, of course, always
welcome to come and sit informally. What are your thoughts about that?
PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU WOULD APPRECIATE THE CHANGES MENTIONED
ABOVE, DON'T CARE, ARE STRONGLY OPPOSED.
THAT WILL HELP US DETERMINE WHETHER IT IS USEFUL TO CHANGE THE
SCHEDULE OR NOT. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
A REMINDER: on Mon. and Wed. at 11:30 a.m. we have an informal
sitting for 1/2 hour before lunch. You are welcome to stay for
lunch if you let the cook know. During practice period there will be
8:00 evening sittings certain days, check the schedule for practice
period on the web site, study/sewing will be scheduled certain
afternoons and perhaps an evening sewing class time for those sewing
rakusu or
wagesa. Announcements of this will be made on week in review.
