Dear Sangha, I recently received a notice from the Brooklyn Zen
Center, which some of
you may want to respond to.
Greg Snyder and Laura O'Loughlin founded Boundless Mind Zendo in
Brooklyn and
have financed the best part of it. Now it is growing enough for
moving the space to
a larger spot and they have sangha who are ready to help out. Teah
Strozer is the
Teacher for the group and visits a number of times a year and offers
phone dokusan
at other times.
They need help with the move and the first few months as the rent
doubles. They are
contacting various people who might be willing to help and I agreed
to let you know
in case you might want to donate. The goal is to raise $7000.00
asap. They are
the first people, in the Suzuki Roshi SFZC lineage, to establish an
ongoing center with
regular zazen, guests, and other programs.

Below is an excerpt from Greg's letter:
Currently, we've outgrown our little basement space. The current
space is a single room for which we pay $850.00 per month. A sangha
member has offered to rent us a one bedroom apartment in the floor of
his brownstone with a small garden and much more that meets most of
our current needs for $2200.00 monthly. We will be moving to the new
space on May 15th.
We will be offsetting the majority of the increase by renting the
back room to a Zen practitioner. That said, there is going to be up
front moving and set up expenses as well as a little extra monthly
cost in the first few months until the sangha catches up with the
increase. The good news is that three people have committed to
becoming members within the next 2 months upon learning about the
larger space. So though I believe that the added space will offer
enough in way of opportunities for classes, community gatherings, and
a sense of place that we can make up this difference very quickly,
the first few months will be a challenge. Consequently, we are
working to raise $7,000.00 to help with the move and early expenses.
So I am contacting friends and practitioners who might be interested
in supporting a burgeoning zen center in Suzuki Roshi's lineage in
New York City. If you know anyone who might be interested in
contributing any part of this amount, we would very much appreciate
your support. Anything helps.
